Times Square

Times Square is a significant new property development within the City of London occupying a virtual island site close to St. Paul’s Cathedral and adjacent to Blackfriars Station. The building designed by SOM comprises approximately 29,580 sq. m of high quality office accommodation and a retail unit. The highly detailed façade consists of prefabricated single shell panels with a cast in combination of French natural limestone and red bricks. Horizontal lines are created by incorporating aluminium profiles between the bricks and the natural stone cladding which align with the same profiles within the curtain wall system.

To minimise on site works Loveld designed the panels in such a way to enable off site installation of the windows for the majority of the building. Because no continuous vertical joints on the piers were allowed this seemed virtual impossible at first. This was tackled by introducing a small hidden concrete column, which allowed pre-installing and sealing the window frames. On installation this small mullion was overlapped by the next stone-brick pier. Due to the architectural design of horizontal lines and stepping surfaces it is hard to tell this is a pre-cast building.
